What was expected to fail–lasted

What was supposed to last–failed

Journeys from the known

To the unknown, and back again

 

When Believing Was Easy

Bumped around the house

Stumbled into things

You’d think he’d be used to it by now

Beautiful harmonies rang out

There was nobody there

Not like long ago

When music was everywhere

Life was gritty and hard

Lord–did that clock

Have to tick so loud?

Believing was easy

Bereft of emotion

He hung on to her every word

Like a drowning man

Wished he were stronger

And the days were longer

The circus

Left town

Crepe paper promises

Lay tattered and torn

Last corn dog eaten

My way, highway folks

Disappeared down expressways

Disagreement equaled excuses

In their monochromatic minds

Somebody won, somebody lost

Couldn’t lose what you didn’t have

Those with the least

Gave the most
