January 2nd

It’s sprinkling rain, warm and humid.  Unusual for early January.

Today was my best post-Christmas workout–so far.  I’m working off the figgy pudding and other gastronomical delights, that seem to have attached themselves to various parts of my physique.

New Years resolutions are not my forte.  Too many of them were broken over the years–including home exercise equipment that ended up on the front lawn with “free” signs attached.

Going to the gym, is however, something continued for over two years.  Why?  I don’t naturally like to exercise, but feel better afterward.

WEEKEND WALK

Partly sunny

Upper and lower

Clouds drifted

In different directions

Refreshing warm humid

Breezes, blew from the east

Suddenly a rabbit darted

From a thicket–caused

Momentary excitement

Pathway covered with the

Usual collection of road-killed

Frogs and toads–an expired

Armadillo lay at roadside

The boathouse across

The bay perfectly illuminated

In morning sunlight

Distant thunder rumbled

Possibility of sudden downpours

The pace increased with

Renewed sense of urgency

“I’M A RAMBLING KIND OF GUY TODAY…”

I’m a rambling kind of guy today–about anything and everything.  Sometimes I wonder; where have all the free spirits gone?  Are they busy taking themselves too seriously?  Thumping melons in the market; exaggerating for effect; throwing stones in glass houses–like they know they shouldn’t; then complaining when rains come in.

Trips off the beaten path, I happen to relish.  It’s a risk/reward thing–sometimes there are few rewards.  But, they make me happy.  Sometimes compliments do fall like rain.  And, if they’re genuine, are delightful.

My blog has been heavy with bird posts–as of late.  I’m not an ornithologist–just love nature.  I’m blessed to reside in beautiful surroundings.

Some dear friends will be stopping by to visit next week.  I’m looking forward to it.  There may be a brief lull in blog posts to participate in new adventures.  Who knows–it could lead to new post ideas?

It’s a complete turnaround for me–to improve general fitness with thrice weekly trips to my local YMCA.  This time, it’s not been a post-holiday guilt trip, over by February.  I feel better–whether I look better is open to debate.

A few days ago, I mentioned going to the gym to a friend.  His response–he’d gone in the past with some success.  What he couldn’t deal with, were people taking up time on machines, talking and not exercising.

That was one example of bad behavior.  In my opinion, it was more about control (lack of control).  My friend was a manager before retirement–accustomed to giving orders and having them followed.  It doesn’t always work that way in the real world.  I’m trying to control my own behavior–that’s not easy, either.

IF I’M LUCKY ENOUGH TO LIVE THAT LONG

If I’m lucky enough to live that long; I’m going to be as full of life, as the folks performing in this fictitious talent show; for the residents of Mayfair Assisted Living Center.  I’ve recently stepped way out of my comfort zone and joined the local YMCA.  My first impressions were–it’s mostly old folks here.  Maybe, It should be renamed the O-M-C-A?

A few sessions later–I’ve changed my mind.  Sure, there were oldsters, using walkers to go around the jogging track.  But, they were making efforts to do something; make their lives better.  And, by golly, one nice lady, was proud that she was 87.  Her mind was sharp–she could tell young whippersnappers, like me a thing or two.   She’s been there–every time I’ve been there.
