BAYOU MORNING

With all the rain we’ve had, my back yard looks like this. Thankfully, no gators.

Slowly faded
With each
Cricket chirp
Every startled
Frog’s ker-plunk
Along, the
Shoreline

Mosquitos
Searched
For blood
With, high
Pitched whines
Squirrels, scolded
Mourning doves
Gently, called

Happy-go-lucky
Young gator
Glided, across
Calm bayou
Waters
Surrounded
By sylvan
Serenity

Eyes, snout
Held proudly
Above water
Below, a
Cleverly
Hidden
Toothy grin
